(St. Bruno, Priest and Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher, Virgin)
The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.” Jesus answered, “. . . do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Lk_10:17-24
The ’72’ earned their heavenly reward because they obediently followed and carried out the call of Jesus, as His messengers. And despite any hardships or rejection they may have endured, they still rejoiced!
Now, we might be thinking that, of course they had reason to rejoice. They received all this power from Jesus to accomplish those mighty deeds. And, yet, Jesus offers us those same powers. But the question is, are we using them? Do we truly believe that we have the power to eject the demons who are twisting our thoughts and actions and those of others – through the Holy Name of Jesus? Did you ever turn off a bad movie or TV show, beloved, refusing to endure it to the end? Did you ever turn away from a nasty Facebook comment, or accidental, gross or obscene picture on the internet, before allowing it to corrupt your thoughts or views of other people?
You see, Jesus gives us all kinds of opportunities to eject the demons of our culture, of our society, with one click of a finger! All we need do, like the disciples, is believe and answer His call! He truly is quite powerful, our Jesus! Use Him!
