11-12-18 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

November 12, 2018
(St. Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr)
Jesus said to his disciples, “Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the one through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.”   Lk_17:1-6

By OUR offices of Bishop or Priest or Deacon or Parent or Child or simply what we call the Laity – we are all called to avoid sin as much as we possibly can!  But their temptations are surely out there, especially in today’s world.  And yet, by our baptisms, Jesus freed us from their hold on us.  Jesus gave us the power, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to make ‘right’ decisions in every thought and in every action.  “But woe to those who cause others to sin!” especially we baptized!

St. Paul sent his disciple Timothy to go out to Crete to appoint men as priests – on condition that a man be blameless, married only once, with believing children who are not accused of licentiousness or rebellious.  For a bishop as God’s steward must be blameless, not arrogant, not irritable, not a drunkard, not aggressive, not greedy for sordid gain, but hospitable, a lover of goodness, temperate, just, holy, and self-controlled, holding fast to the true message as taught so that he will be able both to exhort with sound doctrine and to refute opponents.  Ti_1:1-9

And those are some pretty big shoes to fill, beloved.  Thus, we really do need to pray for our Bishops and clergy.  And in light of how many of them have been behaving, we, God’s Church, need to cleanse house of those who have fallen, especially in their call of not causing others to sin.  This has been done.  And it MUST be remedied.   We are no longer babies in the faith.  And we no longer need to baby one another with excuses and commissions and meetings.  We need action!  This IS God’s Church, Jesus’ bride, and it’s up to us to preserve it in all the purity Jesus wanted!
