Jesus said to the Pharisees: “I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “He is not going to kill himself, is he, because he said, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?” He said to them, “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.” So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jn_8:21-30
Ever talk to someone, beloved, and feel like you were talking to a wall, or worse, maybe they didn’t understand a word you were saying. This conversation that Jesus was having with the Pharisees sounded just like that. The two of them were on totally different planes. And Jesus knew exactly why they couldn’t understand. They just didn’t believe in Him.
Sometimes we can beat our heads against a wall trying to explain the love, the forgiveness, the salvation of Jesus to a non-believer. Don’t get discouraged, though. They’re just living in a different world, “the world,” while we are trying to live in a Kingdom. Jesus WILL see us through though. And He’ll never abandon us. And sometimes, just sometimes, those non-believers may just catch a word or a phrase from us that Jesus will help work into their souls to help them see, to help them understand. And we may never know the results of our sharing His love.
You see, life is not about the world, beloved. It’s about a somewhere, a something so far beyond this land of “self,” that even our language of love is foreign to those who refuse to believe. Never give up! Our reward is certain! Jesus!
