05-04-19 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

May 4, 2019
The Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table.  Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the Apostles who prayed and laid hands on them.  Acts_6:1-7

Today the Bishop of our diocese ordained thirteen men as new deacons.  In the footsteps of St. Stephen, in the footsteps of the Apostles, in the footsteps of Jesus our Lord, a new journey begins for these men and their communities.  We are joined in diaconal brotherhood with 13 new souls to carry out the mission of St. Stephen and his Spirit-filled brothers.  Pray, beloved for their mission and for all who serve the Lord as Ordained priests, deacons and bishops.  Pray for those who have devoted their lives to the Lord in religious orders.  And pray for our laity who trust in these men and women to offer their lives for the salvation of everyone.  May our loving God bless you always, and give you His peace!
