St. Paul and Barnabas strengthened the spirits of the disciples and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.” Acts_14:19-28
Jesus said to his disciples: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” Jn_14:27-31a
There’s something very different about this “peace” that Jesus speaks about, beloved. It’s not a gift given for having done something worthy of getting a gift. It’s not a gift given in expectation of repayment. It’s not a “worldly” gift at all.
God’s gift of peace is freely given to us at the cost of Jesus’ very life. It’s a LOVE gift. And along with the peace of heart, the peace of fearlessness and the peace of salvation, God gives us this incredibly peaceful gift of eternal love. Not a passing love like the world’s love, but a 100%, all the time kind of love, with no ifs, ands, or buts, no caveats nor reservations. Jesus has shown us the extent of that love, by giving His life for us. And it makes any of the hardships we have to suffer much more endurable. That’s God’s love! Persevere in the Faith, beloved. It’s well worth the cost.
