(St. Boniface, Bishop and Martyr)
Jesus continued His prayer to the Father for His disciples: “I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the Evil One. They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.” Jn_17:11b-19
Jesus prays for us too, beloved. And He consecrates us (makes us holy) as well. When you begin to get disgusted with what you see and hear in the world around you, then you know that you no longer belong to it. We become a part of that Kingdom that Jesus so often spoke of. It’s a kingdom of understanding, it’s a kingdom of Truth.
And yet, we do still live here. So Jesus gave us all a mission in our baptisms. It is a mission of sharing God’s love with everyone we meet, whether they are lost in their immersion with the world or anxious for the next life. We are to share the Joy that Jesus gives to us through the Holy Spirit. That joy IS the Truth, beloved. And we are to rely upon the Holy Spirit to keep us from ever losing that joy, especially to the wiles of the world.
Jesus said “Go forth!”
And there’s our mission!
