(13th Sunday Ordinary Time, C)
St. Paul said, “live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want. But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” Gal_5:1,13-18
Ever notice, beloved, how comfortable we are in our habits. Some may be good habits, like eating for nourishment. Some may be bad habits, like eating just for the sake of our insatiable desires. And we can go on and on with our nasty, flesh-satisfying habits. St. Paul tells us that we need not be controlled by the flesh, when we allow the Spirit to lead us. Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to help us overcome those worldly habitual desires. All we need do is allow Him!
