07-25-19 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

(St. James, Apostle)
Jesus said to His disciples, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  Mt_20:20-28

Jesus modeled for His disciples and us, beloved, what humble, servant-leadership means.  It’s not looking to be great or rich, or famous or powerful – beating up those who are less aggressive than us.  It’s offering our love, God’s love, to others.  It’s showing others that the greatest power and wealth and fame is in what we can do FOR them, not for US.  Jesus went as far as dying FOR us.  And that took quite a bit of unbearable pain.  All for love of us.  He IS our God and we strive to learn from Him, how we should live our lives as well!

To all the James’s out there, including our son Fr. James, a very happy, peace-filled and blessed St. James day!
