08-17-19 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

August 17, 2019
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Mt_19:13-15

When many of us grew up, the words we would often hear were, “Children should seen, and not heard.”  I guess it was probably a step above not even being seen.  But as time progressed, and children’s rights grew, we came to understand that not only should children be heard but they should be seriously listened to.  To some extent, today, we may have gone too far the other way, where we see some very disrespectful children, spoiled children and hurtful children because discipline has disappeared and because parents and teachers fear rebuttal for discipline, even though it’s sorely needed.

Somewhere there’s a middle ground.  Jesus saw the abuse and disrespect of children by adults in His time, while all they wanted and needed was a little caring and teaching.  Today we might say the same about parents and adults.  By the time we’re done, hopefully someone will attain that Kingdom.

Just keep the faith, beloved, with patience and love of all!
