(Dedication of Lateran Basilica)
“Wherever the river flows, every sort of living creature that can multiply shall live, . . . Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of every kind shall grow; their leaves shall not fade, nor their fruit fail. Every month they shall bear fresh fruit, for they shall be watered by the flow from the sanctuary. Their fruit shall serve for food, and their leaves for medicine.” Ez_47:1-2,8-9,12
It’s been called the River of Life, the Holy Spirit, the path to eternity, the Love of the Lord. And the trees are the Saints, those with whom we are in heavenly communion and those who bring God’s love to us every day: our parents, our teachers, our spouses, our priests, our children and our Church. We live by their fruit and we survive by their leaves. One might even be you, beloved. It just might be YOU!
