04-02-20 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

April 2, 2020
When Abram prostrated himself, God spoke to him: “My covenant with you is this: you are to become the father of a host of nations. No longer shall you be called Abram; your name shall be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a host of nations. . . . God also said to Abraham: “On your part, you and your descendants after you must keep my covenant throughout the ages.”  Gn_17:3-9

Not just gift, God’s covenant had two sides.  And God would give his part and keep its promise as long as Abraham and his descendants kept theirs.  We see in later generations how the Israelites did not keep God’s covenant and lost their battles and their homeland.  And yet the promise God made to David and his descendants of eternal kingship did come to fruition with Jesus, regardless of how off-target those Jewish religious leaders were by the time Jesus came on the scene.  Jesus gave them every opportunity to repent, to change and to believe, but they still failed to see the Truth.  Now it’s up to us, beloved, to keep God’s covenant, Jesus’ command, and to receive His promise of eternal salvation.  This is our Faith.  And this is what we live by!
