04-11-20 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

(Holy Saturday)
Today a great silence reigns on earth, a great silence and a great stillness. A great silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. …

He has gone to search for Adam, our first father, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow Adam in his bonds and Eve, captive with him—He who is both their God and the son of Eve. …

“I am your God, who for your sake have become your Son. …

I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead.”  (Ancient Homily for Holy Saturday, ca. 2nd century A.D.)

For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the spirit.  In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient . . . 1_Pet_3:18-20

For this is why the gospel was preached even to the dead that, though condemned in the flesh in human estimation, they might live in the spirit in the estimation of God.  1_Pet_4:6

And in there – is our HOPE!

I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees. You shall live in the land I gave your fathers; you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
(From the Easter Vigil, Ez_36:16-17a,18-28)

In the silence of our isolation, beloved, we come in reverence to our Lord and God.  We come in prayer, for the healing of the sick and for the consolation those who have passed.  We come in thanksgiving.  We come in wonder and awe that so GREAT a Love could ever be possible.  And so it is!

And we THANK YOU JESUS
for your sacrificial offering for us!
