Daily Mass Quotes – November 2011

Then the LORD said (to Elijah), “Go outside and stand on the mountain before the LORD; the LORD will be passing by.”  A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD–but the LORD was not in the wind.  After the wind there was an earthquake–but the LORD was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake there was fire–but the LORD was not in the fire.  After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound.

When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, “Elijah, why are you here?”      1 Kings 19:11-13

Why are YOU here?

Was it to discover magnificent colors?  Was it to find colorful music or awesome videos?  Was it just curiosity?  Was it accidental?  Were you really looking for God, for Hope, for true LOVE somewhere in this menagerie we call the web?  Or were you just hiding in a cave, waiting on the Lord to whisper in your ear – a Word – LIFE!  Life, it’s in You!  And YOU are beautiful in the Eyes of God, no matter what the world may say or think.

You are Loved, beloved!!

Every day the Lord whispers in our ears – Words of HOPE, Words of LOVE, and maybe not even words – just His JOY in our hearts.  Let’s follow the Scriptures of our daily Mass and see if we can catch those Words – simple but beautiful Whispers to the Wind . . .

Quotes for reflection:

11-30-11
(St. Andrew the Apostle)
How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!

Jesus said to them, “Come after me,
and I will make you fishers of men.

And so…
Their voice has gone forth to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world.

Brothers and sisters:  If you confess with your
mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Rom 10

Beautiful feet, Fishers of men, Heart belief, Confession: SALVATION !

11-29-11
The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him:
a Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a Spirit of counsel and of strength,
a Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD,
and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD.”  Is 11

. . . The Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
This is our strengthening, received in the Sacrament of Confirmation!

The calf and the young lion shall browse together,
with a little child to guide them.” Is 11

Never underestimate the Wisdom of a child!!!

Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,
“I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the childlike.

The “childlike,” our striving – to let go of the “world’s” wisdom and cling to God.
Cling to the Wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
Cling to the Grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

– – – LOVE – – –

11-28-11
The centurion said to Jesus,
Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof;
only say the word and my servant will be healed.

In the days to come . . . They shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.”  Is 2

Yes, no more war, no more fighting, hatred, or death.
Yes, Jesus, we are not worthy either, but you still save us moment after moment.
FAITH!

11-27-11
(First Sunday of Advent)
“..O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay and you the potter:
we are all the work of your hands.”  Is 63

Jesus said, “What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’

Mold us, teach us and strengthen us Lord, to be your ‘watchmen’ and ‘gatekeepers.’
Keep us ever aware of what we allow into our eyes and ears and out of our mouths.
Let them only be the most pleasing to you.
To protect our delicate souls and build up your Kingdom among us.

11-26-11
Jesus said, “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy…
…and pray that you have the strength..

As Advent is right at our doorsteps,
there can never be enough reminders to be prepared.
PRAYER, the caffeine for our hearts!
LOVE, the spinach for our souls!
HOPE, the gasoline for our every action!
And HEAVEN our destination!

11-25-11
Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away,
his kingship shall not be destroyed.

So why would anyone want to hang on to anything but the indestructible?
Not money, not power, not fame, but the Love of Jesus Christ (the Word of God)!

11-24-11
(Saint Andrew Düng-Lac, priest and martyr, and his companions, martyrs)

Jesus said, “People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world,
for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  And then they will see the Son of Man
coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  But when these signs begin to happen,
stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.

And the King proclaimed:
For he is the living God, enduring forever; his Kingdom shall not be destroyed,
and his dominion shall be without end.  He is a deliverer and savior,
working signs and wonders in heaven and on earth,

ALL things are passing, but YOUR LOVE, O God, will last forever!!!
In Thanksgiving – our love to you all!

11-23-11
In their disrespect for the Lord, “Suddenly, opposite the lampstand,
the fingers of a human hand appeared, writing on the plaster of the wall in the king’s palace.  When the king saw the wrist and hand that wrote, his face blanched;
his thoughts terrified him, his hip joints shook, and his knees knocked.

He saw the “writing on the wall,” and he was terrified because of his guilt.

Jesus said, “Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.

And Jesus said, “persevere” in doing good, even if it seems the world is against you.
And I will be with you in strength and in wisdom.

Persevere, beloved!!!

11-22-11
(St. Cecilia)
Daniel’s revelation, “. . a stone which was hewn from a mountain
without a hand being put to it, struck its iron and tile feet
(the statue of the king’s dream), breaking them in pieces.

and that
. . . stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
interpreted . .
the God of heaven will set up a kingdom
that shall never be destroyed or delivered up to another people.”  Dn 2
The Kingdom of God . .
and Jesus said, “When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified…

..instead, be filled with HOPE beloved,
for we know that God is always with us, and not even death can separate
us from Him, because Jesus has already conquered death!

11-21-11
(The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary)

Jesus said, “…she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.

The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

What are we willing to offer for the sake of our Lord?
Daniel risked his life to keep the Law,
The woman in the temple offered her last cent,
Anna offered her only daughter, Mary.

Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers,
praiseworthy and exalted above all forever;
Dn 3:52

.

11-20-11
(Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King)

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.” Ps 23

Jesus said, “‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.’

And they responded, “‘Lord, when did we see you… (in such conditions)?
‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did
for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.‘”

We are the sheep of His flock…
Love wholeheartedly and give all, in His Love.

Today is the last Sunday of the Church Year.
Next week we will begin Advent of Cycle Year B (Mark’s Gospel readings).

It is also the Last Sunday we will be using a liturgical wording of the Mass implemented 46 years ago, after Vatican II changed it from Latin to English.  We’ve grown!  After many years in preparation, we will be changing to a wording much closer to the Mass of the early Church.  It will be different.  It will cause a little tongue tripping for a while.  But it will also be very beautiful.  It will wake us up to paying a little more attention to those words and maybe prompt us to ask – just what does all this mean?
That’s good!  That’s exciting!!!
Praise the Lord!

11-19-11
Jesus said, “They can no longer die, for they are like angels;
and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise.”

…and so we say, “I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come
.  Amen”
Nicene Creed, New Roman Missal

..Because this is what Jesus taught!
Awesome HOPE!

11-18-11
Jesus said, “My house shall be a house of prayer,

..and that house shall not be made of stone and mortar,
but of flesh and blood,
of spirit and soul.
Pray then, beloved, that we never have the temptation to
defile these houses of ours, nor those of our
brothers and sisters, because they are
His house, His Body living among us!

11-17-11
Jesus spoke of Jerusalem, “They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.

Oh America, America!  Can you not see the world around you?
How very blessed you are!  Wake up and follow the Ways of the Lord.
He is our guide, our life, our salvation.
Love all Life and Live!
We have the freedom to choose, beloved!

11-16-11
She said, “..since it is the Creator of the universe who shapes each man’s beginning,
as he brings about the origin of everything,
he, in his mercy,
will give you back both breath and life,
because you now disregard yourselves for the sake of his law.

For the sake of His law – LOVE,
what are we willing to give?

11-15-11
Jesus said, “For the Son of Man has come to seek
and to save what was lost.

Oh, the strength and the courage we receive to be FOUND by the Son of Man!!
Oh, the blessed reward of eternal salvation!
Oh, where are you, my beloved?  He whispers to the wind.

11-14-11
Jesus asked him, “”What do you want me to do for you?

There are those who will persecute you because of your beliefs.
There are those who will mock your faith.
There are those who will ignore your (His) Words.

Yet, Jesus asks – What do YOU want from me?
I want to see, I want to live, I want a friend, I want work Lord.
Through You alone, Jesus, will this be done – if it be God’s will!
And if not, still, I thank you for my blindness, my death, my solitude, my poverty.
Bless me Lord, for I come to do Your will!
To build Your Kingdom with whatever breath I have left in me.
To praise Your ever-Holy Name!

11-13-11
the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.”  Proverbs 31
Blessed are you who fear the LORD,” Psalm 128

out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground.
Ummm, oops, not quite the right response to fear.

Jesus said, “For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich;
but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

We all start life having something, even if it is very little.
A child who can’t talk or walk or even feed herself, can still smile.
And it earns her a thousand smiles in return!

.For us, a healthy “fear” should always invoke ACTION, not cowardice.
And all action involves some kind of risk. With every breath we take, we risk a cough.
But God gave us breath to live.  Do we thank Him for every breath?
If God has blessed us with a smile, we use it, even if it’s outcome may be a sneer.
If God has blessed us with a profession, we use it,
even if it doesn’t produce all the answers.
If God has blessed us with much, how much are we willing, risking to give back?
It’s all and only ours – for the growth of His Kingdom!

As the saying goes, “It’s better to die trying, than to have never tried at all.”

For all of you are children of the light and children of the day.” 1 Thes 5
Live in the Light of Christ, beloved, and Give that it may spread!

11-12-11
Jesus said, “But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?

….Maybe here and there.  Stay vigilant beloved!!!

11-11-11
For if they so far succeeded in knowledge that they could speculate about the world,
how did they not more quickly find its Lord?” Ws 13

The 10-bazillion dollar question!  And yet they’re the ones running it!
But as for us…

Jesus said, “On that day, …
Remember the wife of Lot.
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it,
but whoever loses it will save it.

I daily give my life for you, dear Jesus!
Happy 111111 beloved!

11-10-11
Jesus said, “For behold, the Kingdom of God is among you.

In Wisdom is a spirit intelligent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, agile, clear, unstained, certain, not baneful, loving the good, keen, unhampered, beneficent, kindly, firm, secure, tranquil, all-powerful, all-seeing, and pervading all spirits, though they be intelligent, pure and very subtle.  For Wisdom is mobile beyond all motion, and she
penetrates
and pervades all things by reason of her purity.
For she is an aura of the might of God and a pure effusion of the glory
of the Almighty;
therefore nought that is sullied enters into her.
For she is the refulgence of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God,
the image of his goodness.  And she, who is one, can do all things, and
renews everything while herself perduring;
And passing into holy souls from age to age, she produces friends of God and prophe
ts.

Wisdom 7:22…

So pray, beloved, that we always be open to Her guidance!

11-9-11
(Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome)
Zeal for your house will consume me.

The angel brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing out

when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not
break his legs, but one soldier thrust his lance into his side,
and immediately blood and water flowed out.
” (Jn 19:33-34)

Do you not know that you are the temple of God,
and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

Our zeal for Jesus to live within our temples
helps us to recognize the holiness of these temples:
all of them, from the unborn to the aged and everyone in-between!

11-8-11
God formed man to be imperishable;
the image of his own nature he made them.
Wis 2:23 …

Jesus told them to realize that,
We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.

And what is that obligation?
Simply to Love God and one another.
“and our reward will be great in Heaven!”

11-7-11
Jesus said, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,
you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’
and it would obey you.

the Spirit of the Lord fills the world, is all-embracing, and knows what man says.
Ps 139

The wonders of the Lord!  They FILL the earth.
All we need do is open our eyes of faith.
And He will be poured into our hearts to overflowing.
“Mustard seed faith!”

11-6-11
(Thirty-Second Sunday Ordinary Time A)
Resplendent and unfading is wisdom, and she is readily
perceived by those who love her, and found by those who seek her.

“My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God”

..those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him.

For then, “we shall always be with the Lord.

Are we SO athirst for the Lord,
that no matter when He comes to gather us together,
we WILL be ready?

11-5-11
Jesus said, “No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and mammon.
. . . God knows your hearts;

..and He loves you more than ANYTHING or Anyone else in the world can!!!

11-4-11
(St. Charles Borromeo, bishop)

Those who have never been told of him shall see,
and those who have never heard of him shall understand.

By the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit,
shall this be possible, through us, beloved!

11-3-11
St. Paul said, “For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God;

. . . I’m sorry . . .

Jesus said, “I tell you, in just the same way
there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents
than over ninety-nine righteous people
who have no need of repentance.

11-2-11
(Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed – All Souls Day)

Jesus said, “For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.

OH the joy of Eternal Life!
OH the joy of Life itself,
when lived in Christ Jesus.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil;
for thou art with me.
Psalm 23

In 1995 Pope John Paul II published an encyclical document entitled:
Evangelium Vitae or “The Gospel of Life”
(It is, in essence, a book.)
It is a book that most beautifully describes Life
and our responsibilities in Respecting and Preserving every aspect of it.

Man is called to a fullness of life which far exceeds the dimensions of his earthly existence, because it consists in sharing the very life of God.
The loftiness of this supernatural vocation reveals the greatness and the inestimable value of human life even in its temporal phase.
Life in time, in fact, is the fundamental condition, the initial stage and an integral part of the entire unified process of human existence.  It is a process which, unexpectedly and undeservedly, is enlightened by the promise and renewed by the gift of divine life, which will reach its full realization in eternity (cf. 1 Jn 3:1-2).

11-1-11
(Solemnity of All Saints)

St John said, “After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count,
from every nation, race, people, and tongue.  They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.”

… the Saints!

Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you
when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.

This is Life in Christ –
not for the recognition, not for the reward,
but purely for the Love of God and Neighbor!

A Prayer to the Saints
God our Father, source of all holiness,

the work of your hands is manifest in your saints,
the beauty of your truth is reflected in their faith.
May we who aspire to have part in their joy be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that having shared their faith on earth we may also know their peace in your kingdom. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
