(The Commemoration of the Faithful Departed, All Souls Day)
The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. Wis_3:1-9
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. . . . Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage. Ps_23
Jesus said, “this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.” Jn_6:37-40
This is the great hope of the Christian life! Death is not an end to fear, a pit to fall into, a fire to dread, but it’s just a passage into a true life, an eternal life, a life of hope and glory and peace and communion with all of our believing brothers and sisters, and with our God! Greater than the greatest experience we’ve ever had in this life is the life we have to look forward to, beloved. O blessed death that lets me finally become One with my God and all those who went before me! O blessed be our God forever!
