Jesus said, “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.” Mt_5:1-12
What is it that we “hunger” for, beloved? More riches, more food, more fame, maybe just a little acknowledgment, maybe some peace? Jesus tells us today, that if our hunger is for being good, being that child of God that we were created to be, then we WILL, be just that. Sure, there will be stumbling blocks along the way. There will even be suffering and disappointments. But if we persevere in this quest, this hunger for righteousness, Jesus tells us that we will be satisfied. Maybe in all of these challenging beatitudes, if we start with just this one, this hunger for righteousness, all the others will slowly just follow along. And we’ll find ourselves loving the poor (even in our own poverty), having more compassion for the lost, becoming more humble, bringing peace into our world and lives, and even being able to withstand persecution for the sake of our Lord and our Faith. Blessed are we when we do and become these!
