(24th Sunday Ordinary Time, A)
Peter approached Jesus and asked him, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. Mt_18:21-35
It’s not forgiveness because we’re supposed to. It’s not forgiveness because we want to be forgiven. It’s forgiveness because deep within our hearts we know that LOVE conquers all. Wouldn’t we rather have a friend than an enemy? Wouldn’t we rather be totally relieved of anger and hatred. Forgiveness comes from the Love we have pouring out from our hearts. How many times? An unnumbered amount! Beyond all imagining, we forgive because it’s just what someone who is filled with Christ’s love does. It’s as natural as breathing!
