(The Epiphany of the Lord)
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” Mt_2:1-12
Have you seen the star, beloved? It points us to God. Where is God, you ask? He’s in that neighbor who returned your misdirected mail. He’s in that stranger who offered his place in line, so that you might get through quicker. He’s in that child who stares into your eyes looking to see if there’s compassion, joy or threat. You see, God is actually in that star. And those stars are all around us. Do we recognize Him? All it takes is a little slowing down, a little opening up, a little compassion. If we look hard enough, beloved, we might even find the love that He has placed right there within us. Where is the newborn king? Look! He’s all around us!
