01-10-19 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

January 10, 2019
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, . . .
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.’ Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.  He said to them, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” Lk_4:14-22

The Spirit of the Lord!  That same Spirit that Jesus sent upon the disciples at Pentecost, that same Spirit that we received in our Baptism and Confirmation, that Spirit that we receive every day of our lives to bring us wisdom and courage is upon US as well, beloved.  Are we truly aware of His presence?  Are we reliant upon Him/Her to free those in captivity to the wiles of the world?  Do people look intently at us and wonder where that wisdom came from?  Do we sometimes even look intently at ourselves and wonder the same thing?  It is the Holy Spirit!  Trust in Jesus, beloved.  His love will set us free!!!
