(Third Sunday of Easter)
Beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he (Jesus) interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. Lk_24:13-35
There really was a lot going on in the Old Testament Scriptures. The Israelites certainly did not always have it very easy. So when we read the Pentateuch and the Psalms, Wisdom and the Prophets we can see all those prophesies regarding the situations that early humanity and the Israelites were struggling with – relating to themselves. We can see how their stubbornness of heart, their weakness of mind and the rebellious nature always got them in trouble, either with God’s created world or with God Himself.
But then, when we read them again, all of a sudden we can see this tie to Jesus. We can see Jesus throughout all of the Old Testament, especially in the Psalms and the Prophets. All of a sudden it all makes sense! And then we ask, Why didn’t they know it, why did they not recognize Him, WHY did they treat Him as they did? You see, it was all written right there in black and white! And yet if they didn’t do exactly what they did, those prophesies would never had been fulfilled. There would have been no Resurrection, no Ascension, no forgiveness of sins, and no Eternal Salvation. It HAD to be! It WAS God’s plan!
And if THAT had to be, then WE can be assured that what Jesus told US, will have to be as well. There WILL be a final judgment, there will be atonement for sins, there will be life everlasting, IF we listen and follow what Jesus said. We were given the proof the first time – I don’t think we need a second proving. The deed was done…
NOW it’s up to us! We are not to be the self-centered Pharisees, gobbling up Jesus while the starving world watches. We are not to be the stupid lambs following whatever whim or great fear comes our way (even the threat of death or the rationalization for murder). We are not to look for any hope, or any journey, or any purpose in life other than FOLLOWING Jesus back Home! Don’t let them fool you, beloved. It is YOU that the devil wants to discourage and knock down. And he/she comes in many forms, shapes and colors. But WE have Jesus! And Nothing can take Jesus away from us – save ourselves. And we HAVE the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in that resolve.. Be strong Beloved and Believe! And we’ll definitely meet again, together with hugs, in God’s glorious kingdom!
