05-05-20 Catholic Daily Mass Quotes

May 5, 2020
Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon.  So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe.

The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me. But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”   Jn_10:22-30

And they will ask and Jesus will answer over and over again.

Ever throw a fishing line out into the water only to sit and sit while nothing ever happens.  And then all of a sudden you get a nibble and your first reaction is to yank on it!  Well, I never was very good at fishing anyway.  But in today’s fishing saga, the Pharisees were out there trying to catch Jesus again.

But they didn’t really get (just) a nibble.  Jesus pulled the line, the pole and them so deep into the sea that they didn’t even know what hit them.  All they knew was that they came out all wet, again!  While in the process, their question was AGAIN directly answered by Jesus.

He IS the Son of God, the long awaited One, the Christ!  And WITH Him, there are no unbelievers!  If those skeptics were looking for a Christ, looking for salvation, looking for the protection of God, Jesus tells them that they have only ONE place to look – and He was looking right at them.  Unfortunately, they were not.  They were just looking for excuses to shoot down anyone who could possibly out fish them.  But they were sorely mismatched.

Jesus, the greatest shepherd, the greatest fisher (of men) is the ultimate, the Only model for us to follow.  And when we do, no politics, no virus, not even death can deter us from the Love of God for those who love Him!    And that’s us, beloved!  That’s us!
