Jesus said, “The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Mt_23:1-12
Sometimes we can get so self-conscious about what others think of us, how we talk, what we wear, how we look. Jesus is telling us today that all of that doesn’t really matter. What really matters is, whether we can put anyone and everyone else above us? Can we look at others without judging them, without comparing them to ourselves? Can we let go of ourselves enough to see the best in those we might otherwise be looking down at. Maybe it’s really us whom the rest of the world IS looking down at. And, you know what, it really doesn’t matter. All that matters is how good of a person we can be in serving everyone (even ourselves, when it’s necessary)!
