(32nd Sunday Ordinary Time, C)
Jesus responded to the Sadducee’s silly proposition about marriage and resurrection, saying, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise.” Lk_20:27-38
While we’re in the flesh, beloved, we have so many precepts and concepts and deceptions to worry about: our food, our shelter, our jobs, our marriages, our kids, our ailments, money… But after we die, none of those things will matter any more. This is what we try so hard in this life to understand, to overcome. Jesus knew both sides of the coin. And He told us not to fret over those things in our earthly lives to which we are so overly concerned. But to never forget our God. To never forget our relationships with one another. Because these are the most important things that will carry on to eternity. Love one another, He said. And that love will carry us through it all!
