(Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary)
After losing track of their son for several days, Mary and Joseph searched frantically for Jesus. Finding Him in the Temple with the Jewish Elders, He replied, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. Lk_2:41-51
As parents, there are some experiences with our kids that we’ll never forget. With minds of their own, sometimes they can’t imagine the anxiety it causes us whenever they become misplaced. I know I’ve done it to my parents, my own kids have done it to me, and even Jesus did it to His parents.
Didn’t I know that my lost kid would just be exploring the toy department? Didn’t Mary and Joseph know that Jesus would be in His Father’s house? Didn’t God know that Adam and Eve would be exploring that tree that they were not supposed to touch? Of course we all did! But that never kept the gray hairs from growing, the heart rate from going out the roof, or the memories to ever fade away. Thanks be to God, He almost always has us covered. And we pray for those kids who DID find their way into harm. And we pray for their recovery, or their parents consolation for the most devastating loss one can possibly experience. It’s truly is a piercing of the heart. And our Mother Mary knew it well!
