(11th Sunday Ordinary Time, A)
At the sight of the crowds, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” Mt_9:36-10:8
Brothers and sisters: Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Rom_5:6-11
Such love is unfathomable to most of the world. “Even though we were sinners,” God loves us so much that He would walk out into the middle of the battlefield and cure and forgive and love us pitiable, lost, abandoned humanity. Jesus calls us to be like Him. We are all brothers and sisters in this battlefield of life, beloved. One day we will be united – poor and rich, silent and loud, tall and short, perfect and handicapped. One day it will make no difference! And neither should it today. Love everyone!
