Sending His disciples out on their first mission trip, Jesus said to them, “Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”   Mt_10:7-15

If we work for anyone in life, or even if we work for ourselves, we know that we have to expend great cost in effort and in time, in sweat and blood to often receive much less than what we gave.

Jesus is telling his disciples and us that there is something we have received without cost!

Then, the question is, what is it that we received?  Well, God has given us our very lives.  We have eyes to see His beauty.  We have ears to hear the majesty of nature all around us and the wonderful sounds in music that our companions have created.  We have hands to touch and to feel with, noses to smell, feet to walk and arms to embrace with.  That is quite a gift!

Now maybe life has thrown us all kinds of curve balls and in many different directions.  We may be shunned by our friends.  We may have physical handicaps.  We may even be hungry and without work.  But despite these small setbacks, God still gives us more.  If we take the time to count our blessings instead of our hardships, we’ll find that we really DO have a lot to offer others – without charge and in Love, just as God has given to us!
