Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.” Mt_5:38-42
Human nature tells us to protect and defend. Divine nature tells us to love. Human nature tells us to preserve and hoard. Divine nature tells us to give and give until all is gone. Human nature tells us to climb and climb until we’re on top. Divine nature tells us to give the ladder to someone else, because we really don’t need it when God is our launching pad. The former leads us to mortal death, while the latter leads us to eternal life. Which would you prefer, beloved? Which do you choose?
