(St. Jerome, Priest and Doctor of the Church)
Jesus took a child and placed it by his side and said to them (His disciples), “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest.” Lk_9:46-50
How hard we try, beloved, to be great in someone else’s eyes: to make the grade, to win the race, to get our name in lights! But it’s all, as the writer of Proverbs says, it’s all dust in the wind. We really don’t have to make ourselves Anything! God has already done the work. All we have to do is just be the best us we can. Whether that’s a trash collector or a CEO. God knows our hearts. And when those hearts are purely centered on ourselves, it doesn’t matter how great we think we are. All God wants is for us to care for Him and for ALL his other children, and especially those in most need of His (and our) love!
