(St. Leo the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church)
Jesus said, “The coming of the Kingdom of God cannot be observed, and no one will announce, ‘Look, here it is,’ or, ‘There it is.’ For behold, the Kingdom of God is among you.” Lk_17:20-25
Where is heaven, beloved? Is it somewhere up in the sky? Is it so far beyond our reach and understanding that we fail to recognize it being closer to us than anything else in the whole world? They say that sometimes love is blind. But in reality, Love IS seeing. Love is heaven. Love is God, or God is love, as St. John claims! Heaven is there in our recognition of God’s beauty in creation. Heaven is there in that doggie frantically waving her tail at the sight of her human companion. Heaven is there in the calm and silence of a baby in his mother’s arms. You see, we really don’t have to look very far to find heaven. This IS the “Kingdom of God” among us. It’s all around us when we look with the eyes of faith!
